PELAJAR LUAR NEGARA SERONOK MELANCONG GUNA DUIT TAJAAN? | So this tweet caused a little bit outrage towads overseas students. And then there was one tweet stating the these students are just wasting thousands ringgits of governments money per month (which he deleted the tweet later on). Well, I do have the same feeling before. Watching my siblings studying oversea, sponsored by government agencies envies me so much. However now being like one of the, studying in an EU country proved that it's not really true at all.
Note : Malaysian students = students in Malaysia
Obviously we looked happy because we only show all the beautiful things here in social media, just like all other people do. Let me give you the truth. As a foreigner here, some of us were discriminated, exactly how Malaysians did to Banglas, Nepals and other migrants. It get worse when you're living in a country where Islamophobia is strong.
Yeah, it is true that we received thousand ringgits per month, far more than Malaysian students receive. Do you know when we converted the all the money into the currency used in respective country, it wasn't much? Most of the time half of our monthly allowance will be used to pay the rent. Did Malaysian students pay RM 1800 per month just to live in a small apartment with 2 rooms? Not to mention that the apartiment is situated at outskirts of town, far from the university. I wonder which type of house will I get if I pay the RM 1.8k in malaysia.
We make our own food every day (we cook). That's the key to save a lot of money. I'm well aware that students in campus aren't allowed to cook, but the cafe wasn't really expensive, ain't it? Plus there are some foods/drinks that you can make yourself in your hostel (takkanlah air teh pun wajib beli kot?)
If it's about vacation you're talking about, actually whenever you're studying right now is just the same. Since we're studying abroad, it's a trend for us to save money for vacation purpose. But why Malaysian students never do that? Well, the reality is most of Malaysian students know is spending their allowance on food hunting, going to expensive, fancy restaurant yang mana takdelah sedap mana pun, buying new and useless gadgets etc. and then complain takde duit pada tengah bulan. Trip to nearby and famous vacation spots in Malaysia (Bali, Singapore, Phuket, Bangkok etc) isn't really expensive at all. Kalau tak percaya mohon check ticket time sale dan tak perlu nak gatal-gatal book hotel 5 bintang. You can ask backpackers for more info about budget travel.
Most of us save our allowance, some did a part-time job (whenever permitted. It depends) just like Malaysians, and a few asked their parents for extra money (macam students Malaysia tak pernah buat kan?). Had they not travel, they would've used the money for something else.
Study kat Malaysia pun makan duit rakyat juga, cuma kita sendiri tak perasan because we live in it. Kalau tak pelajar Universiti Awam (IPTA) kena bayar tuition fees tu jauh lagi mahal. Well, you guys are eligible for BR1M (21 years and above) and BB1M (which many sell it for pocket money. Amanah kerajaan pun sanggup kau khianat kan?) annually and many more subsidies. Talking about GST in Malaysia, I'm right here have to pay taxes which are more expensive than GST. Overseas takde klinik 1 Malaysia tau.
Rezeki tu di tangan Allah. Some of us have a chance to study abroad, while many don't. Even they actually outsmart us academically. There are many reasons for government to spend a lot of money for them just to study abroad (they are well aware about that). It is a long term investment for the country itself when they return to Malaysia. It also to broaden our mind and perspective, which travelling serves that purpose greatly. Isn't travelling a sunnah by the way?
To sum it up, I would like to say sorry on behalf of overseas students for showing only the good thing here and not ranting whenever a problem happen (no matter how small it is) like Malaysian students did, even though our purpose is to encourage the youngs to study hard.
